Dance Classes in Canterbury

Hi I am Andrew Hall AKA D.J. Reverend Boogie and here is a bit about me.

I specialise in 1930’s-50's music and dance and have loved music and movement for most of my life. This started back in the 1990s in London and I soon started to guest DJ at various swing and r’n’r clubs. I was resident DJ at the award winning vintage night club Hula Boogie. The things I love most about dancing is the feeling of joy and exhilaration it brings me when I am on the dance floor. Not only has dance helped me by giving me energy and a burst of endorphins it has motivated me through challenging times and helped to gain a great circle of friends!

Over these years I have had some amazing times dancing. One of my most memorable moments was meeting and dancing with Frankie Manning. Frankie Manning was a major contributor to the Lindy Hop, a dancer, innovator and a choreographer. For most of his lifetime he was an unofficial Ambassador of the Lindy Hop, promoting and performing globally. Manning was also one of the most important originators of swing dance in the 1920s and 1930s. I have enjoyed seeing many original singers and musicians from the 1940s and 50s perform. A major highlight of my life was winning a dance contests while dosed up on pain killers after injuring to my back.

I am happy I can do what I love. I’ve taught 1940’s/50’s style Jive since 1995 and over the last few years I have expanded my teaching to included other swing and vintage dances. Here are a few of my favourites; Collegiate & Heel Shag, beginner's Charleston, Onestep, Partner Conga, Calypso, & 1950s/60s fun dances: Hand Jive, Bunny Hop and the Twist. If it’s not listed here just ask me when you come to one of my sessions and I will see what I can do.

I currently teach dance classes and run events in and around Canterbury and across the South East. You will find me in Canterbury, Wingham, Bishopsbourne and soon Aylesham.  I have been guest DJ/teacher at clubs & weekenders. I currently teach at the Royal Festival Hall on New Year's Eves. You will also find me at one of the country’s biggest annual vintage music & dance festival, held every August bank holiday weekend at Twinwood in Bedfordshire.
